As usual, Habitat for Humanity (H4H) is stepping it’s game up… The Hawthorne area of Minneapolis, like the rest of the country, has been hit hard by the housing crisis. In the video below, Sue Haigh and H4H find a new reason to build and renovate homes.

Brian M. got me to join Kiva. I always knew it was a top-notch form of helping others, but i never really got into it. We started a Kiva team, The Society of the Humane, and it’s pretty awesome (both in name, and membership).

wounded warrior…

There’s this awesome program, Wounded Warrior, aimed at helping troops that have come home injured, get back on their feet. These men and women do a ton for us in their existence alone. Check it out their stories on Overstock here.

Check out Wounded Warrior’s site here. The program has tons of programs to help these soldiers, including Peer Mentoring and TRACK. Track is a short term program that helps soldiers learn new things that may not have been exposed to before. Things like higher education and financial responsibility. It’s a great program! Please, give if you can.

As usual, the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity (TCHH) is helping make lives better. Thanks to generous house donation by Jerry and Terry Shrank, TCHH will be moving the house with renovations to a lot they’ve purchased in Prior Lake.

If you have a few extra dollars, anything, click here to make a donation. The goal is $50,000, and when this was being written, we’ve already reached $2,500! I’m sure it would be greatly appreciated by TCHH, and more importantly, the family that ends moving into this place. Here’s a picture of the current donated house, followed by a rendering of the renovated house. Thanks in advance!

If you’re in the giving mood, there’s always a program that could use your help. In college, I did a little work with Habitat for Humanity. A really great Christian charity, that’s been around since about 1976. If by some chance you don’t know this organization, take some time to learn about it…

Aside from giving some of your time, they accept financial donations too. They have some really interesting programs like Builders Circle and Build-A-Home, just to name a few. Check them out.

If you can, and care, here’s a charity to consider: the show me campaign. I came upon it watching a John Legend video for his song, Show Me. At first I thought he was doing a take on the two footprints in the sand inspirational. But it wasn’t… It was about 2 stowaways that lost their lives trying to escape poverty by climbing into the landing gear section of a plane. It seems this case, among many pulled on John’s heart strings… I hope it does the same for you.

In this Googlfied time in history, things are good for software and techie people. That’s great, but it would be even better to share some of that, wouldn’t it? Well, for those of you with a backup 360 (you know who you are), or lusting over that MacBook Pro (It does look nice…), or maybe eyeballing that new Mercedes C-class (how dare you) - take a moment to squeeze in some empathy for your fellow man… and woman… err humans. Even if you already give to a charity, consider Changing The Present. You can actually choose your donation’s target. Every little bit helps!
